These are all the characters that appear in the story, minus a few very minor cameos. The list will be updated as the story goes on and more characters are introduced. There may be a few very minor spoilers, but nothing too big.

“First Appearance” refers to the first chapter in which the character in question has a speaking role and/or an otherwise substantial appearance.

Main Characters

HOLLY POTTER OF THE EVANS LINE
(Canon counterpart: Harry Potter)

Orphaned at an early age and growing up with her terrible aunt and uncle, Holly Potter’s dreary life took a turn for the strange and wondrous the day she found out she was a witch, and that her mother had sacrificed herself to save her life from the wizard terrorist, Tom Riddle.

Armed with her mother’s old wand, a strange scar on her belly, and plenty of courage, Holly is ready to explore the witching world, attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, try to figure out this entire “coven” business… and hopefully not get killed by vengeful Death Eaters.

First appearance: Chapter 2, The Runaway Lawnmower

VERONICA “RONNIE” WEASLEY OF THE PREWETT LINE
(Canon counterpart: Ron Weasley)

The eighth-born of fifteen sisters, Ronnie is what you might call the ultimate middle child; often overlooked in favour of her older or younger sisters, spending a lot of time on her own, and not really having anything special about her. That was at least the case until she met and befriended Holly Potter, becoming her first friend and most constant companion.

Ronnie has lived her entire life in the witching world and often acts as Holly’s guide to the various aspects of life as a witch, as well as an endless source of wisecracks and sarcasms.

First appearance: Chapter 3, An unexpexted Meeting.

HERMIONE JEAN GRANGER
(Canon counterpart: Hermione Granger)

Like Holly, Hermione grew up in a mundane family, not knowing she was a witch. Unlike Holly, she did not have any sort of dramatic backstory involving wizard terrorists and self-sactificing parents… she’s simply a perfectly normal Muggle-born who one day found out that she had magical powers and was to be accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and wizardry.

Well, almost a normal Muggle-born. Hermione may not be the most socially well-adjusted, but she has an exceptionally sharp mind and learns new things very fast, be they magical or mundane. This definitely comes in handy when she is supposed to live in a society with very alien (and as far as she’s concerned, very sexist) values. And being called “Prude” isn’t going to stop her from protesting the unfairness of the witching world.

First appearance: Chapter 8, Books and Baby-Prudes

DEAN THOMAS
(Canon counterpart: Dean Thomas)

Dean originally thought he was a completely normal, mundane boy, who lived in London with his mother, step-father and three half-sisters. Then, he found out he was a wizard and learned about the witching world… and immediately gained a lot of attention from the witches due to being something so rare as a Muggle-born wizard… or, since he never knew his biological father, at least a wizard raised in the Muggle world, which is basically the same thing as far as the witching world is concerned.

Though known as a laid-back, good-natured and artistic sort, Dean is currently watched very closely by the witching authorities. After all, everyone remembers all too well that the last Muggle-raised wizard was a certain Tom Riddle…

First appearance: Chapter 8, Books and Baby-Prudes

ALBUS DUMBLEDORE
(Canon counterpart: Albus Dumbledore)

A bohemian, an outcast, and quite possibly the most powerful wizard of his age. Albus is the older brother of Headmistress Ariana, and though she has often asked him to come work as a teacher at Hogwarts, he prefers to lives a deceptively peaceful life in the Muggle world, and together with his assistant Hagrid work as a private investigator, taking on cases for Muggles and witches alike.

As a gay man, he is not very popular in the witching world, though over the years he has helped out a lot of people, and managed to gather a number of friends and acquaintances who owe him plenty of favours.

First appearance: Chapter 1, The Leaky Cauldron

RUBEUS HAGRID
(Canon Counterpart: Rubeus Hagrid

Albus Dumbledore’s half-giant partner. housemate and assistant. As a halfbreed (part human, part giant), Hagrid is one of the witching world’s “second-class citizens”; while he was allowed a basic education at Hogwarts, he can’t vote, he’s not allowed a wand of his own, and he is banned from the coven system as only full-blood humans are allowed to start or join covens. He also had problems finding a job, until Dumbledore took him in as an assistant — an arrangement that’s worked out very well for the both of them. Hagrid may not have Albus’s smarts or magical prowess, but few people are stronger or tougher than him.

Despite his occasional flare of a temper, and the witching world’s stereotypes about giants and half-giants, Hagrid is a loyal and gentle soul who cares deeply for fellow outcasts and people in need. He’s great with children and animals.

First appearance: Chapter 1, The Leaky Cauldron.

“HEADMISTRESS” ARIANA URQUART OF THE DUMBLEDORE LINE
(Canon counterpart: Ariana Dumbledore)

As Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Ariana (usually simply called “Headmistress”) has been the main overseer of the education of young witches and wizards for decades. She belongs to the Urquart coven, which is unusually small in that it only consists of four members: Ariana herself, her sister-wife Aberdeen, her coven-wife (and Deputy Headmistress) Minerva, and their husband Elphinstone. They have no children, though Ariana has been known to say that she consider the Hogwarts students her “children.”

Ariana is known as a kindly, if somewhat eccentric woman, and is generally very lenient with her students. This has given her the reputation of being “soft”… though adults who try to push her around quickly find that she’s neither pushover nor weakling.

First Appearance: Chapter 1, The Leaky Cauldron.

ULVA GREYBACK
AKA BELLATRIX BLACK OF THE ROSIER LINE
(Canon Counterpart: Bellatrix Lestrange)

One of the most dangerous women in the witching world, Ulva Greyback is the Queen of the Werewolves, and one of the most devoted and fanatical followers of the wizard terrorist, Tom Riddle. What not many people know is that “Ulva Greyback” isn’t her real name; nor is she the first person to go by that name. Her real name is Bellatrix Black of the Rosier line, and it’s rumoured (though not confirmed) that shortly after she was made a werewolf, she killed the original Ulva Greyback in order to take her place… but since a Werewolf Queen’s rule over her subjects is absolute and it’s nearly impossible for a werewolf to go against their Queen, not a lot of people believe this rumour.

After Tom Riddle’s mysterious disappearance, Ulva (or Bellatrix if we’re being informal) was the only one of his followers who was never caught by the authorities, and is still a wanted fugitive.

First appearance: Chapter 11, Bigots and Bargains.

TOM RIDDLE
(Canon Counterpart: Voldemort)

Self-proclaimed revolutionary and the most feared wizard terrorist in modern times, Tom Riddle is also known as “The Man Who Couldn’t Die,” because he’s survived everything that would have killed anyone else… up to and including having his head cut off with a sword. A fanatical hater of the coven system, he sought to change the witching world by waging war on it, blowing up a lot of buildings, killing a lot of people and enslaving even more.

He might have continued like this indefinitely, but after attacking and killing Holly Potter’s parents James and Lily, he seemingly perished in an explosion that annihilated their house… but a lot of people believe he’s still out there, plotting his comeback and revenge.

First appearance: None yet, but is first discussed in Chapter 1, The Leaky Cauldron.

FLORA WEASLEY OF THE ZIEGLER LINE

(Canon counterpart: None)
The seventh-born Weasley daughter, and the self-proclaimed “family beauty.” Elaine is very pretty and often content to rely on her looks to get by. She can be vain, selfish and scheming, but can also be jovial and friendly… when it suits her. She’s the only Weasley to be a Slytherin.

OLIVIA “LIV” REYDON

PHOEBE PENROSE OF THE ROSIER LINE
(Canon counterpart: Phoebus Penrose)
